Jareb Designs, Giveaways, and Some Selfies

 

Alright I know BIG selfies are obnoxious, but they have to be big if I want to show off my new headbands. I took advantage of Jareb Designs Memorial Day sale. Getting this in the mail was a perfect way to make a stinkin hot day that much better. I mean seriously guys did you see the temp on instagram? Anything over 102' is just stupid hot! Yes I know I live in Vegas, but come on! Anything over 100' means you get a sweaty back no matter what you are doing....I know it's an over share, but for those guys and gals in Vegas you know what I am taking about:) Anyways I got some cute headbands and I may have ordered some for you as well. I am working on getting some more goodies and then I will be hosting a "My Favorite Things" giveaway. I am super excited!! I am collecting all of my favorite summer goodies and then I will be giving it away to one of you lovelies! I am so excited! I just have a few more goodies on my list to get, but it is going to be soon...so stay tuned!

Reading with Ringling Brothers...

This past week, during our library day, we learned that Ringling Brothers had teamed up with the Henderson Library District to encourage reading. If children read 5 books, then they earn a free ticket to the circus, which is coming to town here. I was pretty darn excited...maybe even a little more than my littles. I had seen a commercial for the circus, but knew at $15 a pop, it was nowhere in my family's budget for a family night. I mean that would be about $60 for us all to go! Nope nowhere near what I budget for family night*. However, if my littles earn their tickets, then the cost of going to the circus is back into the realm of what I budget. Why am I sharing this? Well because I love anything that encourages my children to read and I love having them set a goal and work hard to earn something fun. I know I am not the only mama out here in Henderson who feels like this, so I thought I would share the knowledge. Lets all encourage our littles to read and work hard. Hey us Mamas can even pick out a book or two to read! Kids learn by example, so I try to remind myself to set a good reading example as well. I just finished reading Out of Control. It was a good one. In fact the whole series rocks my pioneer loving socks!

If you don't live in the Henderson area, check with your local library and see what programs they have going on. Our library is always cooking up something to get those kids to read.

*I know you are going to ask what I budget for family nights, so I figured I'd share. I like to spend around $40-$50 a month on family night. This includes any special treats or outings. Because of this small budget, I try to keep things as frugal as I can. $40 really adds up when you have a family of four. I try to always remind myself that family night is not about the amount of money you spend, but how you spend your time together.We just try to have a little frugal fun each week!

{Bath Towel Head Wrap}

Today I want to show you how I added ribbon to our plain old towels to make something quite useful.



So Miss Priss is always amazed at the turban like thing I make out of a towel to hold my hair, once I have showered. She always wants me to do the same, but her poor little hair is not thick enough, nor is her head big enough. She looks like a weeble wobble when we try to wrap up her hair like Mom's. Well after much pleading for me to find away for her to be like Mommy after her shower, I came up with a solution.

I found some towels at Wal-Mart for $1.99. Normally I wouldn't buy these, since they are so thin, but they're perfect for those little noggins. I bought a few and decided to make her a head wrap for after her showers. The towel was thin enough and small enough that she would no longer be teetering over when her hair is wrapped. I added a piece of fun ribbon to the middle of the towel. All you do is fold your towel in half. This is so you know where the center of your towel is. I then sewed my ribbon in place. 



I added a few hearts to the towel for fun and I was done. This was a five minute project. Boy I love those! Miss Priss loves it. She now feels Super Grown Up (her words not mine) in her towel wrap. I am now planning on making a few more. The ribbon also serves as a great hook to hang the towel when not in use. I love how fun and simple this was. Hope you can make some for your littles too!





Oh and if you don't have a girl, no worries. I made one for my son. He doesn't use it for his hair, but it is still perfect for after the shower. I added a fun monster to his. Too fun!
