Family night is something we try to do every week. It is a time for us to be together, unplugged. I try to keep our activities simple, fun, and on the frugal side. I always try to remind myself that my children will not remember how much money I spent on them, but the time I spent with them. This is something I want them to remember when they get older. Hubby and I want them to always know how important they are and that we cherish the time we get to spend with them. Life can be crazy busy sometimes, so we use family night as time to be together without letting other distractions take us away from quality time with each other. Since last week was Spring Break, I planned an easy family night. We were taking it slow during our week off from school. We got up in the morning and did a doughnut run to Wal-Mart. Pajamas were a must and baby dolls in strollers were included. We made the car ride to the store, shuffled along in our Pj's and flip flops, and made our sweet selections. We then came home and munched on some yummy baked goodness. This was an easy, frugal, no planning required activity. The littles loved it and it only cost me $7.20. Not too bad for a fun family night...err morning.
What are you guys doing for family night this week?

omgosh - i luv it! so much fun. and ur right our kids remember the times, not the money. and i think sometimes the more frugal it is the more true plugged-in connection you have. maybe just my experience. I would rather go to the park than a movie,at the park we can have a little picnic, and fun and talk. atthe movies we maybe togather but we're not engaging. of course that being said we're doing the movies tonight Jurassic Park 3D, i hope he makes it thru. he loves that series bu 3D is alot more intense. I read abt your family nights and how you try to make them unplugged. can u give more info, do u have them every week? i'm just curious ad very interested. thx!
ReplyDeleteFor the last year, we haven't really done 'family night' since I had a baby and it was harder with scheduling but, starting tonight, we are doing family night again. Every week, one child decides what we eat and what we do. It usually consists of nachos, or fajitas, then board games followed by a movie. It's all about creating memories!
ReplyDeleteoh i luv the idea of letting them choose what's for dinner - i'm going to implement that!
DeleteFun! We sometimes take Megan out for ice cream after her bath. She thinks it is neat to go out in her pjs. Great memories you are creating!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm....family night/morning...a pajama'd doughnut run is a great idea! Thanks for sharing! No family nights really yet for us b/c we're living with my parents.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun family "night" activity. :-) I think my boys would love this! :-)
ReplyDeleteOur favorite family night this time of the year is making a camp fire and roasting marshmallows. We usually work in the yard (gardening makes for some great learning moments) and then when it starts to get dark, Daddy starts the fire. The younger kids love the marshmallows and we have had some great conversations with the older kids while waiting for the fire to die down late at night.
ReplyDeleteWe love roasting marshmallows:>
DeleteThat is an awesome deal and would make a doughnut run much more thrifty:>
ReplyDeleteSince our my sons are in their late 20's, it's just myself and my wife but if you can count the 4 legged pets as children, then the 4 us celebrate family night with a good frisbee and a wide open field, with mini picnic filled with home items, on cold or rainy days, we kick back and play CANASTA. Sad, but I alway lose. But I lose with a smile ALWAYS. We follow every single of your blogs, but can't always comment because we travel and to be frugle we use wifi free spots - our cells don't let us comment. HUGE fans!!
