Hello Lovelies! I wanted to hop on the blog really quick and share the link to the NBC Today Show segment, which was aired this morning. NBC did a story on my family and how we live on $14,000 a year. It was a really fun experience and we got to work with some amazing people! I shared the link on the Blissful and Domestic facebook page, or you can view it here. Enjoy lovelies!
So neat!! I checked out that book from MY library and look forward to reading it this weekend :)

I love how they were very positive in the segment :) sometimes the media can spin "alternate" lifestyles very negatively, but they didn't for you
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! I was watching the Today Show this morning and saw your family's story. I am really intrigued and would like to know more about how you do this!

ReplyDeleteHow awesome you were in the Today show! My husband saw an article about you oh yahoo too! You are becoming a sensation :)
ReplyDeleteCool Danielle!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are starting a lot later in life, but our goal is to live as simply as you do. I applaud you for figuring it out at a much younger age. Your kids will have a huge advantage as they go out into the world to build thier own lives !! I am glad you are sharing your story, you will help motivate a lot of people to reevaluate thier priorites and make better choices with thier money and time !!
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys looked amazing! It was very interesting to see the house and everything live! Looks like there is a lot of light and positive energy, even more than at the pictures.
ReplyDeleteYou guys should make a video of one of yours grocery shoppings or menu planning sessions. I am really curious how do you make decisions and such

I got the Complete Tightwad Gazette almost 14 years ago and really have used a bunch of her ideas to continue to live on one income...not the $14K you live on, but by no means are we rich. Now you have given me another book to reach out to and try a few new things. Thank you and bless you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat's really awesome Danielle! Congrats! You have worked hard and deserve this. Loved seeing you on TV.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the coverage! It was an awesome clip.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI think they did a great job overall. I know that I would be very nervous if the media was coming into my home, but it looks like you have little to complain about with their story. They made you look smart and grateful for what you have. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that I think it's great that you are getting some media attention--you deserve it! I get so tired of people whining about how they are having trouble making ends meet when they don't want to do anything about it. You are proof positive that it CAN be done. Good job!! I was a huge fan of Amy Dacyzyn/Tightwad Gazette back in the 90's, glad to see that there are still some people who are taking this kind of lifestyle to heart.
ReplyDeleteSo Inspiring! Thank you so much :)
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! I originally started following you after I saw your post about that but now I love following you because you give out awesome ideas that I've never even thought about! I too try to sit down and set up weekly plans but sometimes they just don't work out. Keep on keepin and make sure you keep us in the loop about your future marketing career ;)
ReplyDeleteMy Comcast home page had a link to this video this morning. That's how I found you. I immediately became a follower. I can see that you share tons of great info to help save money.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the video doesn't actually say that you homeschool your children, I knew you must be homeschooling from the scenes in the library and your kitchen. After homeschooling my son for 7 years, I know that one of the benifits is that it also saves money.
Now I'm off to find your recipe for Sweet Potato bread that you mentioned in your newest post.
Great story - you and your family are an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and love it!! (Thank you Yahoo!) Story on Today was great and the media portrayed you exactly as you are, a smart savy thrifty Mama! As some have commented before me the thrifty lifestyle is not always portrayed in the best light. My family also embraced this lifestyle, with me leaving a Full-time /Critical care RN postition to Homeschool our Son. Our Son is now a freshman in College and made the Deans list His first semester. People thought we were crazy, but we would not have changed a thing. Embracing the thrifty lifestyle changed our Family and for the better!
ReplyDeleteLoved the segment, and getting to see video of you and your beautiful family! Felt like I got to meet you! I have followed your blog for a while! My husband and I are planning on me staying home next year and homeschooling our two littles. Thanks for all the awesome advice and inspiration!

ReplyDeleteCongrats! I saw your segment live. Your story is very inspiring to many people.
ReplyDeleteWell done! Very eloquently described and you looked quite chic, I must say! You are inspiring!
