5 Ways to Make Science Come Alive This Summer For Your Kids...

Alright Mamas, it is the end of July and you still have about 6 more weeks till school starts up again. Whether you are counting down till the kiddos return to school or are savoring the time you have with them..or maybe a little bit of both...I am sure you are racking your brain, trying to think of some fun things to do with those kids to pass the hot summer days we've been having. Well I've got you covered lovelies! Today I am sharing 5 ways to make science come alive this summer with your kiddos because we all know when we get those little minds thinking, amazing things can happen :)

1) Get Out in Nature- Go outside. I know it is hot....trust me I know! I live in the desert where the sun is always present. I swear it feels like it never sets some days.....dramatic yes....a bit, but I am serious too! Getting out in nature is a great way to get little minds thinking...and big minds too! Go for a hike, collect bugs, make a bird feeder and hang it, etc. Think outside the box and be creative. There are tons of ideas for outside fun on the web. Search for ideas with your kids and find something fun you can all enjoy!

2) Enjoy Science in the Kitchen- One of my favorite things to do with my kids is get in the kitchen to cook/bake. When you are cooking or baking, you are doing science and the cool thing is that neither parent nor child is realizing that science is being done. Bake something, make a meal together, or try something new. Let your kids be involved in the planning of food in your home. When I include my kiddos in the creation of meals, something magical happens. Little hands are busy, which means they are less likely to poke each other out of boredom - please tell me I am not the only one with a brother sister combo who strive to annoy each other! They are also more likely to eat what was prepared because they had a hand in making it. They always want to try out their handiwork :)

3) Explore a Museum- exploring museums with my kiddos is an all time favorite of mine. I love sitting back and seeing where their curiosity takes them. Kids are naturally curious and want to create and ask questions. They are naturally question askers and want to figure out the world around them. Taking them to museums, specifically hands on ones, allows them to feed that curiosity and get some energy out as well. Win! Win! Look up what museums are available in your area and plan a trip. Your kids will love it!

4) Make a Family Fun Calendar- I am a planner. It is printed in my DNA...for real people. Because I like to plan, I have rubbed that characteristic trait off onto my kiddos. They like knowing what the plan is for the week. Come up with a game plan for your kiddos. Think of ways you can get out and explore. It you can't get out, try to plan a few experiments you can do at home. Bayer Making Science Make Sense® has a toolbox of fun ideas you can do with your kids. I have already found a few I want to try with my own muchkins. Some science fun is surely happening in my house this summer!

5) Have fun and set a budget- When it comes down to it, you simply need to have fun. be creative and listen to your kids. Listen for the ideas they share and the things that they want to do this summer. Set a budget, so you can find things to do that don't break the bank. No matter what you do though, have fun. Your kids are only this little once. When they grow up, they won't remember how much money you spent on them, but they will remember the time you spent with them.

You can find more kid friendly science fun ideas HERE on Bayer Making Science Make Sense® :) Have fun! #SummerScience

{Sunny Summer Fun Banner}

Hello Lovelies! So let me just say here in this desert of mine I live in (Vegas) it is pretty dang humid. Yesterday I literally felt like melting. I know I am being overly dramatic, but I hate being hot. Usually our house is pretty cool. We have a swamp cooler and it works great. ....except when it is going to rain. Too much moisture in the air means a humid home. Yuck! I have no clue how all you lovelies in the south do it.. You are beyond heroes today my friends. Heroes I tell you. So with me sweating it up, in my humid home, I had to think of something fun to do with those littles. We decided our home was in need of some summer cheer. We made a summer banner for our reading area. This was one of the ideas I had planned to do during our Summer Camp at Home . I think it turned out pretty well. Want to make one with your littles today?
Photobucket

Our first themed week for Summer Camp was Friendship. I always associate Friendship and suns together.  This is a simple craft, where your littles can do all the work. It isn't about it looking perfect, but about them being able to create something to add a little summer fun to your home.

Here is What you Need:

6 paper plates
yellow craft paint
paint brushes
ribbon
white computer paper
black marker

Photobucket

Paint all 6 plates yellow. When the paint is still wet, have your littles sprinkle some glitter over the plates. We did this over the sink, so it was an easy cleanup.

Photobucket

Let your plates dry

Photobucket

Write out the letters in "summer" on your white paper.
I wrote these out, but you could totally have your little ones do it.
Glue the letters on the plates.

Photobucket

Staple your plates to your ribbon and find a fun place to hang it.

Photobucket

Doesn't it look just darling in our reading corner? I know it makes my littles happy knowing they created it all by themselves. I love looking around my home and seeing their artwork displayed. It makes this Mama's heart extra happy. You can check out our clothesline where we display more of my littles artwork. Too cute right?

Well have an awesome day lovelies and I am keeping my fingers crossed on getting you that staples list this week. It is all written out, now to just proof read and get it LIVE. Have a fabulous Tuesday and stay cool.

Oh and don't forget the FASHIONABLE FABRICS Giveaway.
You have 2 more days to enter to win a $35 gift certificate.

Rocket Toss With Motivated Mommy of Two

Hello Lovelies! It is Wednesday and I have a fabulous guest post for you today. It is Shirley, of Motivated Mommy of Two. She is one of my fabulous Co-hosts from the Summer Fun Linky Party. She pretty rocks! So lets meet her and get to know this fabulous Mama.

Blog Meet Shirley
--------------------------------

Hello everyone, I am really excited to be guest posting for Danielle today. I have been following Danielle’s blog for a couple of months now. I really enjoy all of the information that she provides. And love linking up to her fun parties
Danielle and I are also co-hosting together along with 14 other bloggers the Summer Fun Party!
My name is Shirley and I blog at Motivated Mommy of Two. I am a mom to the two most wonderful kids and a wife to the most loving and understanding husband.
I love to write about what motivates me to keep going with my weight loss journey, the awesome times I spend with my family. And of course all of the different projects I like to work around the house.
Keeping up with the summer theme, today I wanted to share with you a fun game I put together for my kids. Since we live in the desert I needed to find ways to keep them entertained inside during the summer months.
I get a family magazine called Family Fun, in there they had a game called Rocket Toss.

For the materials you need:
  • Six Recycled metal cans
  • You can use paint (white, blue and or red) or strips of red, white, and blue duct tape. I choose to use blue and white paint.
Instructions:
  • Once you have saved all of the of six metal cans, wash them and make sure you do not have any sharp edges.
  • Paint the cans or decorate them with the duct tape. I decided to paint mine since I had blue and white paint.
  • Once they are painted and dried it is play time.
  • I used a regular rubber ball for the kids to use to knock down the cans. They had a blast and Mommy was happy to keep them busy inside the house away from the heat.
I hope you enjoyed this fun summer post, hope to see you guys at Motivated Mommy of Two.

Summer Fun: Little Pajama Breakfast Party

Photobucket

Hello Lovelies! Happy Friday! Are you guys ready for another fun summer idea for those little nuggets of yours? Well I have one for you ready or not! This one is actually from a fun activity we did to celebrate the start of summer. My little red heads and I throw an end of school pajama breakfast. We did it the day after school let out. We called all our friends and had them all come over in their jammie jams (Moms included). Everyone brought a breakfast item to share, the kids played, and we did pillow case races. It was so much fun! I seriously am thinking about this becoming a tradition of ours. Way too much fun!

Well let me tell you how it went down, through pictures.

We started out with decking out the living room in loads of pillows, blankets, and stuff animals.

As party guests showed up the kids played

Then the breakfast feast began. There was seriously so much yummy food. From eggs and bacon, to pancakes, fruit smoothies, and cinnamon rolls. So much goodness that everyone left feeling quite stuffed on breakfast goodness.

Summer Fun: Duct Tape Coin Purses

Photobucket
Good Morning Lovelies! I hope you are ready for a fun activity to do with those littles today. I love finding new, fun activities to do with my little nuggets. They seriously make each day fun. I always have someone to talk to, sing with, and hangout with. It is not that I don't love hanging out with other moms, but my little munchkins are my little buddies and I love talking to them, playing, and creating. They teach me so much. Don't get me wrong, being a Mom is hard. I struggle everyday to be the Mom I want to be. One way to help in that struggle, is to have them help me in finding fun things to do. I want them to have a say in the creativity we embark on together. Miss Priss recently found the arts and crafts section at the library. I showed her how all the sections at the library are labeled for little kids. She was beyond excited. She started browsing through all their craft books. She picked out 5, but I had her narrow it down to one. I told her we had loads of time to work through all the craft books she was drooling over. She stuck with Dangles and Bangles. Seriously check to see if your library has this one. Such fun crafts for little girls. All of them deal with stuff you probably have laying around your house or in your craft stash. I had her pick out one of the crafts to do. We then invited my niece over to join in our crafting fun.
Photobucket
Miss Priss decided on making Duct Tape Coin Purses. These were super easy and fun to make. I had Miss Priss do all the reading. This was a great way to have her practice her daily reading. I do this when she helps me in the kitchen too. She is awesome at reading recipes now. Want to learn how to make your own Duct Tape Coin Purse? Well grab your little munchkins and lets get started.

Summer Fun: Doughnut Pajama Breakfast

Hi there lovelies! How is your week going? Ours has been full of swimming, sunburns, Chirstmas in July movie watching and gingerbread house making. So pretty much we are enjoying ourselves. ALOT I have a quick post for today. Simple and sweet. Literally :) Remember when I told you all about our Summer Camp at Home? Well it is still going strong and we are having a blast. I have quite a few posts to share this next week or so. I have lots of summer fun ideas along with all the How Does She posts you all have been asking about. Soon...Promise.... Any who...Today I wanted to share one of the simple fun activities we did recently.

Photobucket

A week or so ago I had a surprise for my littles when they woke up. I told them that we would not be having our regular breakfast menu. I told them that today we were having a super special breakfast, but we had to go pick it up first. They were to go in their jammie jams and then they would be surprised at where we would be getting breakfast. We piled into the van and started. They tried to guess where we were going and my Bubba actually guessed, as he realized we were driving towards the Grocery Store. Yep he guessed it. We were going on a Doughnut run for breakfast. This is a big deal for my littles. We rarely, if ever eat out. I knew getting doughnuts would be a real treat.

 Photobucket

Photobucket

We got to the store and they were beyond excited. They took in row after row of yumminess. They each got to pick out 2 of their very own doughnuts. There were jelly filled one, maple ones, ones with gummi bears. You name it they had it. They made their selections and then we were on our way home.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Orange Juice and morning cartoons were also on the agenda.

Photobucket

We even had got to snap a few sibling love pictures.
Photobucket

It was such a simple outing. It took little prep and planning and only cost $4.99 for the doughnuts (straight from our grocery budget). It only took a simple outing to make my kids day, which they were thankful for. A simple outing, a simple craft, or such. I know for my littles that these are the things they look forward too. I hope you are able to get out with your littles today and have some summer fun. Why not grab some doughnuts of your own littles this morning:)

Come back tomorrow for another Summer Fun Post:>

We are going to be learning how to make duct tape purses.
