Shirt: Shade Clothing - Skirt: Hand-Me-Down - Bracelet: Made By Me
Can I just start out by saying that I am in love with this Maxi Dress. I know I know! I have a thing with Maxi dresses, but seriously how fun is this maxi combo? It was another goodie from my friend Jen. I had actually seen her wear this one to church and I was secretly admiring it, so I was super happy when she said she didn't want it anymore. I was more than willing to take it off her hands. I didn't grow up having sisters to steal clothes from, so I get stupid happy when I have friends that want to give me clothes. I feel like I am living it up sister style:)
One of you sweet ladies asked how I score all my hand-me-downs. My friends and fam know that I love clothes and I don't mind if they are second hand...in fact I sometimes prefer it! Because of that, I get bags of goodies from friends. I go through them and keep what I want. All the goodies I don't need, I share with others or give to charity. It works out great! Thrifting clothes and accepting hand-me-downs is a great way to still look good, feel fashionable, and shop/dress on a budget.
What tips do you guys have for looking good on a budget?

It's very clever to let people know that you will have their 'cast offs' when you get lovely things like this. I also know that you recycle quite a lot and that's also a bonus.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!!! I need to get one of those. I hope to have a sewing machine in the next few months, maybe I will make my own. I am stock piling sewing projects already haha.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! And I am all about comfort too. It looks crazy comfy! I'm thinking about having a clothing swap party soon. I totally support your hand-me-down mentality. I am all about it! Loving your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that making it known that you are COMPLETELY comfortable with hand-me downs is key. We have dressed our children using mostly thrift store purchases and hand-me-downs...often from unexpected people (i.e. random guy at my former office:) Just a few weeks ago I was lamenting to a friend how I {stupidly} got rid of ALL my maternity clothes after #3 only to decide a year later to have a #4. That same friend came back later saying she would gladly loan/give me some of her stash. Sure beats buying new maternity clothes for our DEFINITELY last baby! Same goes with toys, furniture, etc. I have friends asking if I want their old toys for my daycare quite regularly because they know I wont feel awkward taking them.
ReplyDeleteThis also works with left-overs. I am always the recipient of extra buns, meat, etc. at family and friend functions because people know I tend to utilize my freezer, won't let food go to waste (or at least try not too) and am diligent about keeping food costs low.
Have a great week - you look great!! -Lindsey
My suggestion-always spend the most money on shoes! Any plan outfit looks great paired with quality shoes :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so pretty! I like to buy basic items and mix and match them and add cute accessories.
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love hand-me-downs too. I recently was given a bag of mostly tops and sweaters. So fun to go through! Not everything fit me or was my style but I know other ladies who are happy to receive clothing too, so I passed them along!
ReplyDeleteOne tip for looking great on a budget is to wear colors and styles that are good for your skin tone and body type. It's easy to do this even while thrifting for clothes!
