Beauty Tips and Tricks: Using Dry Shampoo

Hi Blissful and Domestic readers!  My name is Jenny and I blog over at Modern Modest Beauty.  You can usually find me writing about fashion, beauty, travel and my life in general.  When Danielle asked me if I would like to be a fashion/beauty contributor here on her amazing blog, I couldn't say no to such a great opportunity!  So, a little about me...I'm a wife and mom of two, a part-time flight attendant and a blogger on the side.  In my precious free time I love to travel, shop (on a budget), craft (even if I'm not great at it), watch movies and spend time with my family.

Being a mother is the best thing to ever happen to me, but it definitely came with some lifestyle changes.  One of the biggest changes has been the amount of time I have each day to spend getting ready.  So today I want to share my favorite time-saving trick...DRY SHAMPOO.

This little bottle will become your new best friend.  Note: I have no affiliation with Suave, this is just the cheapest dry shampoo product I have been able to find.

Step One: Apply dry shampoo to the roots of your hair.  This should be the only part of your hair that is greasy.  If your ends are greasy, that is a whole different problem that I don't have answers for!

Make sure to get the roots toward the back of your head too.  I think it works best to spray from about one foot away.  If you hold the spray can too close, bad things happen.

That is, unless your goal is to have gray hair.  I prefer to dye my pesky gray hairs that are starting to pop up, not add more!  Spray from a foot away and don't apply too much.

Wait about 30 seconds to let the dry shampoo soak up the oil in your hair.  Then, brush through your hair and tease it just a little bit to give it some volume.

Now you can style it however you would like.  I put it up in a side ponytail, because like I said before, with kids I just don't have time to do much else!  Dry shampoo is probably my favorite product and if you haven't used it, I hope you will try it out and see how much time it can save you in the morning.  It's also healthier for your hair to not wash it every day.  Note: you will still want to shower/bathe...if you have long hair like me you can put it up in a shower cap, or just pin it up off of your shoulders!

---------------------------------------------------
Now onto to today's post.....

Did you know that eggs are incredible? Eggs are low in cholesterol. They are also one of the few foods, which are naturally a good source of vitamin D. A while back I was reading a back issue of Woman's Day Magazine. I got it from the library. You can read about how I read magazines for free from the library HERE. The article gave some great ideas on how to start your morning off right. One way to start your day was with eggs. The egg is where it is at. In this article I learned a few facts about how awesome eggs are and how they can really jump start your day. Eggs are high in Vitamin D. “Vitamin D plays an important role in calcium absorption, helping to form and maintain strong bones” (Woman's Day Magazine, October 20122 Issue, pg #131). One egg contains 6 grams of protein and only 70 calories. This is great when trying to feed healthy nutrition packed meals to those munchkins of ours. I know that it can be hard to get our selves going in the morning, along with our kids and hubby's. It is for me at least. I am a snooze button feign, when it comes to the alarm. I seriously hit it at least twice each morning. My bed is just way too comfy. Oh and the fact I am a night owl probably doesn't help either. I usually need a quick breakfast idea, so we can get our day started. I know most of you are all busy ladies. Because of that, I wanted to share a few quick meal ideas. These will save you time in the morning, while feeding your family a nutrition packed breakfast.

Having a hard boiled egg and a blueberry muffin is a great option for the morning. My kids gobble these up and it is a no fuss breakfast. I don't know about you, but those are my favorite type. When I make hard boiled eggs, I place my eggs in a big pot. I add water and bring them to a boil on the stove. I let them boil for 8 minutes. When they are done, I allow them to cool. I place them in a bowl or baggie and store them in my fridge. These are great for breakfast or for a quick, filling snack.

We also love toast and over easy eggs. I am so happy my kids will eat runny eggs. This took a while for them to warm up to. Before, I always did scrambled eggs. Now they ask for the “runny eggs”. I get out my frying pan and cook three eggs at once. I have my bread in the toaster, while I make the eggs. Once the toast is done, we add some butter. This is seriously a 5 minute breakfast. Add some yummy melon and you are golden.

Another way to get your day going right is to have a coffee cup scrambler. These are so easy to make. The munchkins can even do it themselves! I am all about them doing as much of the work as possible. It gives a minute of free time and it allows them to feel the satisfaction of doing it “all by themselves”. The look of pride in my red heads face is too cute not to let them try. Although sometimes the mess left behind is a bit hard to swallow. Just look away from the mess. Remember the cute smiling “I did it face”. That is what I try to do. Now back to the scrambler....

Prep Time: 1 minute
Cook Time: 45-60 seconds
Makes: 1 Serving

What You Need:
2 eggs
2 tbsp milk
1 tbsp of shredded cheese
salt and pepper

What You Do:

  1. Coat Your mug with cooking spray. Add eggs and milk. Beat until blended.
  2. Microwave on high for 45 seconds. Stir and then microwave again. Until eggs are just set. 30-25 seconds longer.
  3. Top with cheese and season with salt and pepper.

Here is another favorite of ours....
Baked Egg Puffs

0bba74b201a111e2ab3822000a1e9632_7_zpsedefe760

What You Need:

2 large eggs
4 egg whites
1/2 tomato (diced)
2 tbl. shredded cheddar cheese
2 tbl flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

What You Do:

1. Preheat your oven to 400'. Coat 4 (1/2 cup) ramekins or coffee cups with cooking spray. Set on a baking sheet.

2. In a large bowl , whisk eggs, egg whites, diced tomato, cheese, flour, baking powder, and salt until weel combined. Divide the mixture among the ramekins or cups. Bake until the tops are puffed up and the eggs are no longer runny in the middle when pierced with the tip of a knife. 15-20 minutes. Serve with some fruit and enjoy!

I have been trying to add more eggs into our morning menu lately. My kids are enjoying it and I am getting a great start to my morning as well. For extra nutritional goodness, you can add a sprinkle of flax seed or wheat germ to your eggs. It is another way to get a little bit more fiber into your diet and not taste it. I am all about being deceptively delicious.

So now I want to know how you start your day? Do you start it with eggs? How do you cook them? Let me know. I love reading your comments and getting new ideas.

Thanks so much lovelies and have a fantastic day!

Hello Blissful and Domestic readers!

My name is Lori and I blog over at Thrifty Decor MomI am so excited to be a monthly contributor to Danielle's blog. My passion is decorating and I also enjoy crafts and scrapbooking. I'm looking forward to sharing some thrifty decorating ideas, fun DIY projects and inexpensive seasonal decorating tips.

Today I want to share a fun Halloween project with you. These are easy to make and kid friendly. Last year I made several and gave them as teacher gifts.

The Masked Pumpkin

Source - All You

Supply List:

*Plain white printer paper
*Scissors
*Mask Template (download from here)
*Black Felt
*White Chalk
*Rickrack - I used orange.
*Craft Glue or Glue Gun
*Black Ribbon
*Pumpkin - I used a faux pumpkin so I can
  reuse this every year.
 *Googly Eyes

Directions:

1. Print and cut out template.

2. Place template on black felt and use chalk to trace it, including eye holes. Cut out mask and eye holes.

3. Decorate mask with rickrack. I used my glue gun because the craft glue wasn't adhering. Plus, you don't have to wait for the glue to dry, if you're impatient like me!

4. Cut ribbon into 2 lengths. Attach a ribbon to each side of mask, glueing ends to inside corners (wrong side).

5. Tie mask around pumpkin. When mask is in position, glue googly eyes on pumpkin.

Here is my masked pumpkin . . .

Isn't he just the cutest!!

Thank you Danielle and all of your fabulous readers! I hope you find some ideas and inspiration that you can use in your own home!
