Getting to Know You: Amazingly Awkward Amy

Hello Everyone! I’m Amy from Amazingly Awkward Amy and I get to guest blog here at Blissful and Domestic on my Birthday!!!!!!Today I am 24 years young but sometimes I feel 12 and sometimes I feel 40. I’ve been happily married for one year to a man who loves me more than I can possibly say. He just finished building me our first house with his blood, sweat and a few of my tears.

I love weddings, dancing, the color pink, acting a fool, Target, H&M, family, green peppers, and a little dog named Rosie. Rosie is the apple of my eye (maybe that’s because we don’t have any babies yet.)

Marisa Lynch from New Dress A Day gave me the courage and the push to learn how to sew. Once my godmother graciously taught me how to sew I was pretty much unstoppable. All I do is thrift. I couldn’t even tell you the last time I went to a regular department store. Probably somewhere to buy underwear because thrift stores don’t have the greatest selection of undergarments. (Kidding)

Photobucket

Before sewing I had no fashion sense at all but after I started thrifting I realized my potential. I just have my own style. Upcycling has given me the courage to wear colors and outfits I had never considered wearing before and for that I am thankful.

I have always hated shopping because things just aren’t made for me. I loathe department stores and the snoty people who work there, the rude other shoppers, and waiting in line to buy things that don’t fit me at all. I wouldn’t call my size a stick and I sure the hell wouldn’t call myself chunky, I like the word voluptuous. My hero’s in life include Elvira mistress of the dark, Dolly Parton, and Christina Hendricks. Real women with real curves. Well I wouldn’t really call Dolly Parton real. She’s so full of plastic when she dies she won’t be able to be cremated because she would just melt. But you get the idea.

Please come visit me at my Awkward blog and check out other fabulous stuff I’ve done. I just started blogging and sewing so please be gentle. Come grow with me and my blog.

Home School: Apples

Here are a few activities we did, when our theme was Apples. I had pictures, but I am having trouble getting them off my phone. Here is the post without them.

We did this 100 apples stamping activity.

We also did this stamping worksheet to help with our skip counting by 5's.

We did the Roll and Color math worksheet. I had Bubba do addition problems to get those answers, so it would be harder for him.

while I worked on some things with Bubba Miss Priss did this color by number worksheet. She loves color by number.

We tried our hand at making crock-pot apple-sauce. Yum!!

For Science this week, we learned about the scientific method, science safety, and then also about the life cycle of an apple tree. We used these cards to help us.

Math Games This Week

We love playing games to learn. It is such a great way to get them excited about learning something new. I do this especially in math, since it is one of my bubba's least favorite subjects. We like to use UNO. It is a great way to learn number recognition, not to mention how to be a good sport.

We also love to fish for numbers. I use these for everything. They use them to show me answers to addition problems. Working with showing numbers, recognizing them, doing mulitples. These were the greatest thing I have probably made. They cost less than two dollars to make, and we are going on our sceond year of using them in school.

Here are just a few of the things we are doing to help us with Math. I will be sure to post more when we play new games in Math. I hope you are all having a fabulous week learning with your littles:>

Mexicana Breakfast

So I know I do not have an ounce of Hispanic blood in my body. I am basically as white and milky pale as they come. In fact in high school my Spanish teacher told me I was too white. I couldn't speak the language, even if my life depended on it. I can't roll my tongue, which made for some crazy and interesting Spanish convos in class. So I took my c+ and gave up the dream of ever being able to understand those spicy looking soap operas.

Now that you know my background on the whole Mexicana thing, I have a quick recipe to share.

I make this whenever I am short on time for dinner. Everyone loves it, which makes it a great go to meal.

Here is what you do:

Mix about 8 eggs in a cup and season with lawrys seasoning salt(my fav!). Pour into a hot greased frying pan. Cook eggs until done. Add about 1 cup of cheddar cheese and 1 1/2 cups of green salsa. Mix and heat all the way through. Serve on warm tortillas with sour cream.

These will be a crowd pleaser for any Mexican breakfast/dinner.

Enjoy!
