Today I wanted to address a few questions I have been asked quite a bit lately. I guess some of you have noticed how Blissful and Domestic has picked up a few sponsors over the past few months. I have received questions about getting sponsors and putting ads on your page. I am going to address both of those today. A wonderful reader asked me the following......
"Hey Danielle,
I am looking through blogs I read that have some crossover content, and have noticed a few with AdChoices banner ads like the ones you have. I currently have BlogHer and would love to add one more, but want it to be relevant to my content, of course. Because I shop at Michael's ALL the time, I would love to have them on there...and I believe they are thru AdChoice?
Can you tell me more about this?"

Alright so let's talk about sponsors and ads....
First of all the reader up above was asking me about the ads I have on my sidebar. Not the sponsored buttons, but the ads. I actually have no control over those ads. They are added through blogger via google.
If you are wanting to know how to ad those,
Let me show you......
First off you will go into the Design section of blogger.
Click Add a Gadget. I have content on two sidebars.
Pick which sidebar you want your add to appear.
I have mine on the right hand side.
Once in here you can choose size and color of ads.
Most of the adds will be based upon your content. I have never had anything inappropriate been displayed as an add. The more traffic you have to your blog, the more money you make off these ads. These are not BIG money makers in the begining, but the more readers and traffic you have the more money you make off of these ads.
You can see here that on this particular day I had made .47 cents off of google ads.
Once you make $100 they send you a check.
I know that some people who have BIGGER blogs.....meaning well over a thousand readers/followers make more money
This is because they have more traffic.
I stick to only two ads. I don't want my blog being overrun by ads.
I also keep my adds below everything else on my blog.
I have been to some blogs where they have adds right under their header.
I am not a fan of this. It is too in your face and I think it definitely takes away some of the cuteness factor of the header and stuff. I mean why put so much work into making your blog cute and fun and then take away from it with a big ad. Just my oppionion. Remember your blog, your choice.
Now there are some other ways to get ads on your blog. If you look in my sidebar I have a button for Shabby Apple. They are not a sponsor. I am an affiliate. This means that I put their button on my blog and if anyone purchases something from them, via my blog I get a percentage of the cost.
Look here in this picture, this is where you can find out more about it and signup.

Places like Shutterfly.com also have affliate programs. Check out some of your favorite sites and see if they offer one of these programs.
Now onto finding Sponsors for your blog.
Many people may have different techniques for finding sponsors. Some wait for someone to contact them. Me, personally, I am little bit more proactive. I don't mind getting a few no's if I eventually get a yes. Be confident in yourself. I just started to contact shops and sites I knew I loved. I would usually send them an e-mail kind of like the one below.

It goes a little something like this...
Hi my name is Danielle and I have a blog called Blissful and Domestic. This is where I blog about crafts, sewing, cooking, mommyhood, and homeschool. I have 564 followers and get over 17,000 hits per month. I am currently looking for new sponsors for my blog and was wondering if you would be interested. Being a sponsor would entitle you to advertising on my sidebar, through a button each month. I would also write a featured post each month about your company/shop, featuring whatever new items or deals you have going on that month. The cost is only $10 per month. I look forward to hearing from you.

So that is the gist of what I write. It definitely gets you out there and don't be scared to ask. The worst thing they can do is say no. No biggie you move on and keep trying.
Those are great sites to browse.
Social Spark is especially good. Through Social Spark you write adds for companies and then get paid. Those ads/reviews will appear as a blog post on your blog, once they're approved by the company they're for. HEre are some examples of reviews I written, which have been published on my blog.
Duncan Hines
Glasses USA

I can tell you I was paid $50 for the Duncan Hines post and $15 for the Glasses USA post.
So money is definitely there to be made.
One other thing I do is button swap with bloggy friends. We swap blogging buttons or store buttons.
This is a great way to get some FREE advertising and bring some traffic to your blog. If any of you want to swap let me know. I love button swapping:>
I hope this all helps and if you guys have any more questions on advertising and stuff let me know.
I am still learning by trial and error and I would love to help...
seriously...
it may take me a while to respond to an e-mail, but I am getting better
I love helping you out and showing you what I have learned along the way.

Thanks so much for this great info! I have been wondering about this for awhile now. I do have one more question for you! When do you suggest starting to put ads on a blog, and looking for sponsors? I am still a newbie, and don't know if my stats are high enough yet. Any suggestions?
