{Walgreens Prescription Savings Club}

Have you guys heard about what has been going on between Walgreens and Express Script? Well I have just recently learned about this. For over a year Walgreens has been trying to negotiate a new contract with Express Scripts. Express Script was part of their Provider Pharmacy Network. Beginning on January 11, 2012, Walgreens was unable to renew their contract with Express Script. Meaning Walgreens nationwide and Duane Reade Pharmacies, in New York, were all affected.  Even though they tried very hard to reduce costs and really look out for their clients, they were unable to renew for a new year with Express Script.

Were you affected by this? If you were, you should know what Walgreens is doing to help their customers, most who have been loyal customers for years. Walgreens Pharmacy is very aware of the situation and wants to make sure they are doing everything they can to help their customers. Customers are now being forced to go else where for their prescriptions and even drive further in some cases. Also with most people's hectic schedules, they are no longer able to take advantage of Walgreen's 24 hour pharmacy. Express Script policy holders are not even seeing a decrease in cost for prescriptions, considering all the hassle they are now having to endure.

Walgreens never even asked for an increase in rates, when negotiations were taking place. Express Script has tried to reassure that their policy holders will see benefits from leaving Walgreens pharmacies, but I don't see how. Walgreens offers 90-day prescriptions, where most pharmacies only offer a 30 day supply of medicine. Also Walgreens offers a better selection of generic drugs for their customers.

So what is Walgreen's doing to help those that are being forced to else where?

Well let me tell you.....

They are trying to help customers have the smoothest transition possible. Letting customers know they are there to help when needed and they will help in the transferring of prescriptions, etc.

They are also offering some great savings with their Walgreens Prescription Savings Club  You can join during a special January promo for only $5, or $10 for a family membership. When doing this you receive savings on over 8,000 name brand and all generic medications. More than 400 generic are available to you with a three-month supply for less than $1 a week. How awesome is that? Definitely great when most of us are trying to watch our money and where its going. They will also be offering discounts for customers on things like flu shots, pet prescriptions, diabetic supplies, and nebulizers.

Among all those savings they will still be offering great savings when purchasing Walgreens brand products or using their photofinishing services.
