Good morning lovelies! Today I wanted to share a reader's question and answer it for y'all. This one comes from Rebekah. A sweet reader who had a homeschooling question...
I
plan on homeschooling when my child gets older. If the Lord blesses me
with more than one child then I plan to homeschool them as well. I am
curious as to how you decide where to buy your curriculum from year to
year. I know you said you get your kids involved and try and get things
they are interested in. I hate how when I went to a public school the
books said millions of years ago and then the next year it says billions
of billions of years ago. Obviously I don't see where they get that the
world has been here that long, maybe you do, I am not sure, but I don't
want to be teaching my child like that. It's confusing, ya know? So I
guess my big question is how do you decide
on the website and what is the best curriculum for them? Because I
worry when I start homeschooling, I will be getting things that aren't
worth it or the right material. I hope this makes sense. Thanks in
advance for you help. (:

This is such a great question Rebekah! There are a lot of Christian based curriculums out there. You can find a bunch on Christian Books.com. When choosing a curriculum for your family, you must first decide what you want to get from your curriculum, your type of teaching/learning style, what your budget is, and if you want it faith based or not. Homeschool curriculums can be pricey. For my family, we have chosen not to purchase the more expensive curriculums. They are not in our budget right now and I am currently loving the current style/flow we have to our daily learning. We use spectrum workbooks, which I was able to all find on ebay for less than $10 a workbook (with free shipping). When you are buying everything x2, any money saved is good! Shop around and try to find the best deals.
Check reviews on Amazon and such to see what other homeschooling Moms think of the different curriculums you are thinking about. Over time you will be able to try out different things. Some things will work and some will not for your family...just remember that this homeschooling journey should be fun. It should be an uplifting experience, where you can see your little one learn and grow right before your very eyes. Give yourself a bit of grace. Life is a classroom, so don't get so stuck on the curriculum. Yes it is important, but learning and exploring is too. I like to have a good balance between structured learning and individual exploration and research. Our homeschool is 75% Mom lead and 25% children lead. I think this gives us a good balance, where our learning is concerned. I take advantage of the libraries in my area. I look for little opportunities to share my testimony and knowledge of God's gospel with my children. We do not HAVE to have a Christian curriculum to do so. We discuss topics as a family during scripture time. If our kids have watched a documentary, then we discuss the wonder and goodness that is God. Don't forget to search for those little moments to share God's love and His marvelous plan with our children. If we ask, He will allow us to be more sensitive to those moments, so we see them when they arise.I think if you do that, then your children will have a well rounded education. I hope this answered your question and I didn't ramble too much:)
If you have a question for me, regarding anything about the topics you see on this blog, send me an email. I would love to answer it!'
Have a fabulous Sunday!

I would like to say also it is trial and error. I've been homeschooling for about 15 years. There are lots of good companies with lots of great christian based products. Homeschooling can be challenging at times. If you buy a product that your kids hate sell it on ebay and find something they like.Something more suited to your family.
