Welcome to Creating a Beautiful Life on Less, a special home tour series
Today we welcome Kristen to the blog. She is a cute mama who is here to share her tips and tricks for creating beautiful on less.
Let's get to it...
-----------------------------
Hey y'all! I am
Kristine. I'm one half of the blogging duo over at Big
Dreams, Shallow Pockets. I am so very excited to be here
sharing our home tour with you all! Take a trip with me through a few
of the rooms in the place my hubbs
lovingly sarcastically calls
"The Kennel"...me...I just call it home!
I like to call my
decor style "rustic, industrial, funky, fun" - it's a mix
of a little bit of everything that makes me happy.
Since they layout
of my house doesn't technically allow for an entry way, I will just
start you in the living room. This is the view when you walk into the
room.
My flooring is
called Hickory Hand Scraped from Pergo. It's laminate but it's
gorgeous and it's holding up to 2 90+ pounds dogs very, very
well! If you need a cost effective option for hardwood go this route.
It is simply amazing.
This is an older
picture of our TV stand, from when we still had carpet in the living
room, but I wanted y'all to see it close up. I made this from an old
vintage dresser from my great-grandparents house. The drawers are the
original wood from the dresser. I call her Katie Pearl. Yes, I name
my furniture...don't judge.
Just off the left
of the living room is our Master Bedroom...it's a toss up between the
living room and the master as to which is my favorite space. Check it
out...I apologize for the crap phone pictures...these were taken
before I mastered that. I didn't want to take new ones because our
monster of a cat has obliterated the curtains and there are currently
no curtains in the room so it looks a bit weird with the valances
there but no curtains! The room still looks the same overall.
Our bedroom has been done
since early last year and I still have not finished the wall above
the headboard. I have all kinds of ideas for art above the headboard
I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
This is my little
reading nook. I love to curl up in this chair with a book...for all
of 5 minutes...before I either move to the bed or out to the
couch...Hey...it was the thought that counts, right?
Hubbs dresser on
the left and mine antique beauty on the right!
Now on to our
master bath. We have an itty bitty master bathroom that required some
creative thinking for storage...
There is space
for a double vanity but the previous homeowners put in this tiny
thing when they re-did the bathroom. Eventually we are going to build
a glorious rustic/industrial pipe and wood double vanity but for now
I needed a quick and cheap option to allow for some storage
space.
The shelf is from
Target and the little storage boxes are from Homegoods and the trays
on top are from Dollar Tree.
We also have this
teeny tiny little linen closet. It's super small and super deep and
it's very hard to get into so it's not really practical for things we
need on the daily. It's cute though, no?
And last, but
certainly not least...on to the kitchen! This right here...THIS was
the #1 reason I fell in love with this house...
We painted the
counters with a faux granite look. They were just plain white
laminate and so not my style but I can't afford to do granite yet so
this was the next best thing. It has held up surprisingly well...with
the exception to the island which takes the most abuse.
Yup, I painted
the island with clalkboard paint. It started out just being a "base"
coat for re-doing the granite effect we had on the island but after
it dried I kind of decided to keep it that way...at least for a
little while.
I bought my
kitchen table for dirt cheap from a man who sells the 'scratch and
dent' leftover Ashley Furniture and I could not be happier with that
purchase.
Here is my
favorite part of the kitchen...
This is a portion of our
feeding station: I have a Great Dane who uses this chair. We also
have a Yorkie mutt, a German Shepherd and a cat...this would be the
reason my Mr. refers to our house as "The Kennel"
See his point?
Nice huh?
So far, these are
the only rooms I consider "complete" so that is all for
now. Thanks so much for taking time out to tour my house y'all and a
HUGE thanks to Danielle for having me today! I appreciate you all
dearly! If you'd like to see more of my house or the things we've
been up to please feel free to stop by our blog and have a look
