The tree is trimmed and our home is full of many twinkling lights, exactly how a home should be in December. Setting up the tree is a family affair. Carols are played, stories are shared, and giggles are to be heard. As we take out each ornament, little hands grasp the delicate bobbles. Questions of where the balls came from arise. I love to tell stories about the ornament we got when daddy was in Iraq. We bought a "Support the Troops" ornament, so we would never forget that time. We have a metal lizard from when Hubby and I went to the Grand Canyon, pre-children. We tell the kids about their first Christmases and such. Hubby usually throws in a few tale tales as well. It is a time I look forward to each year. Getting a new ornament for my kids each year is a tradition Hubby and I started when we got married. Hubbs and I exchange ornaments each year and then we pick out special ones for the kids. This was a tradition my mother practiced as well. Now that my kids are older they hint to what kind of ornament is on their wish list. Star Wars for Bubba and a Tinkerbell for Miss Priss this year. The hunt is on for the perfect ornament for each of us. We will all unwrap them on Christmas morning and add them to our tree, creating new memories and stories for next year. This is a simple tradition, but definitely a fun one. What traditions do you share with your family this time of year?

  2. Until we moved to this apartment for oldies (so there's now a space constraint!) we used to something similar with the ornaments: now have a small, LD tree, which may or may not go up this year, depending on how I feel. Hubby not with me for the first time in 42 Christmases and I'm spending it with a daughter - but on the other hand, may be. Loved hearing your tale though: keep up the traditions!

  4. Awe we do a new ornament every year too! I love the idea that you and hubby pick them out for each other! I might have to steal that idea. We do choose an ornament from places we travel. And we choose one ornament for our son to go on our family tree each year and allow him to choose the ornament he wants for his tree in his room. I love love love your blog!

  5. This is our first year getting a tree. We deiced that instead of buying a bunch of ornaments we would each pick one out every year to add to the tree. Plus whatever the boys make. Our other traditions are cookies my oldest was 3 months for his first Christmas and he helped me make those cookies. Now 4 years later he looks forward to not only making them but giving out to our friends and family.
