{Thrifty Living}: Making your Soap Go Further

 Photobucket

Alright so let me introduce a new segment to Blissful and Domestic: My Homemade Year. Not only do I want to show you how I am making everything homemade, but I want to show you how my family is saving money everyday. I am hoping to have this as a weekly segment. I want to share the changes we have made in our lives, which have greatly reflected our bank account, in a positive way. So without further ado, I have a great tip on how to make your soap go further for you.
Onto the money saving tip.......

-------------------------------------------
I always love a little extra change in my pockets, well if I had pockets. My PJ's are lacking pockets today.
But me getting out of my PJ's is a totally different story, which I will not discuss now. You can just know I may have days when my cozy Jammie Jams stay with me all day. Who doesn't love a PJ day?

But I am getting off topic...

Anywho onto the short and simple way we can save a few coins today...

Here's What You Need:

Hand Soap
Foam dispensers
water

I love to reuse my foam dispensers. This is a great way to save
money and of course recycle.

I fill the foam dispensers a quarter of the way full with hand soap

Fill it up the rest of the way with water.

Put on the lid and shake.

There you have it.
Simple.
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

You use less soap, but still get clean hands.

So there you have it.
Save on your soap and have a little extra change to add to the bank.
Hope you all are having a fabulous day!

Oh and if you have some money saving tips of your own
add them to The Homemade Year Linky Party
I need all the help I can get!

  1. What a great idea! My family occasionally buys the foam-pump hand soaps from Bath & Body Works when they go on sale but I hate how there's always at LEAST a tablespoon or so left, yet it's so impossible to access with the hose. This is a genius way to stretch our buck even further and keep the colorful soap dispenser, too :) plus we look fancy and I love fancy. Great idea!

  2. I do this too! I normally would refill my other soap pumps but would through out the kids foam soap ones once they were used up. Once Time I thought to refill and add water... and the kids still think I am buying it "special" for them. LOL. Just started following you :)

  4. I do this too. I've collected the hand soap foam pumps when they are less than a dollar and now have enough (Thank you Target Christmas clearance!) for each of the sinks in my house!

  5. I do this too! I find the foam soap dispensers when they are less than a dollar and (Thanks to Target's after Christmas sale!) now have one for each sink in my house, and they are festive. Also a cute piece of paper to wrap around a dispenser could coordinate with seasons year round! :)

Thanks so much for this! I had saved a foaming dispenser just for this, but wasnt sure of rough quantities soap/water. I adjusted your quantities a little - using EcoStore soap (we like the natural stuff, but its also reasonably thick) and did pretty much half water half soap. It works a treat and takes so much less time to rinse off also :)

  9. This is a good trick. Also when you first buy the foam dispensing soap, after you use half, you can fill it to the top with water and still have affective foaming action. It only dilutes the smell a bit.
