The week prior to school starting I searched for fun first day of school ideas. I always love Monica's ideas on the Homespun Heart. Her blog is amazing and always leaves me with a quiet calm heart. Her back to school ideas were great. I also decided we needed a fun back to school breakfast. These colorful waffles from Random Thoughts of a Super Mom seemed perfect.
We started our day off by getting dressed and having a yummy breakfast. Rainbow waffles hit the spot. We then hugged and kissed daddy, as he was starting back to school as well.
Then our school day begun at 8am. We started with a book. I love the Before Five in a Row model, so we try to do a lot of literature based activities. We read the book, My Friend the Monster.
Then we made a monster of our own.
I drew an outline of a monster on white card stock, got out streamers, google eyes, markers, and glue and let my littles loose. This was a fun creative, first day of school project.
After our book craft, we started with journal writing and warmups.
Our first day turned out pretty darn well. After journal writing we moved onto our other subjects.
The kids are excited about starting a new school year and learning new things. I am excited as well to be on this journey with them.
