Little Rainbow Sherbet Bathingsuit

A few weeks ago I was browsing through Desert Industries, a local thrift store, and came upon the bathing suits. I was a little dissappointed, when I found none were in Miss Priss's size. Than an idea struck me. Why not re-purpose a bathing suit? I found a suit in a girls size 14. I loved the rainbow colors on it and Miss Priss loved it too. I brought that baby home and got to work that night. Here is what I did to make Miss Priss a new bathing suit for this summer.

I started out by laying one of Miss Priss's bathing suits
on top to give me an idea about size.
I also measured her as well.
I like to keep current measurements on my kids.
This makes late night sewing easier, since I don't have
them to try things on for me.

I cut the bathing suit into thirds.
Eliminating 4 inches from the middle.
I saved that material to use later.

I then measured the bottom of Miss Priss's bathing suit.

I trimed the sides of the bottom and then sewed the sides together.

I then started working on the top piece.

I pinned in the sides

I then pinned both my top and bottom pieces together.

When Miss Priss tried it on, I realized I needed to add a little bit more material for modesty. I grabbed a stained pink leotard of hers.

and cut a section off, which would be placed in the front

I sewed it in place and added a fabric flower to the bathing suit.

I was so worried when she wore this to the spray ground. I was so sure it would fall apart. It was my first time doing a bathing suit, but I am thinking there will be many more in my future. I enjoyed doing this and was so happy to see her splashing around and playing in the water. Her excited face totally makes this Rainbow Sherbet Bathing suit the best.

Hope you are enjoying warm weather with your littles.
Have a wonderful day!

  1. This came out great! I was just thinking about this recently-I picked up a speedo racing suit for my 10 yr old that joined swim club and was afraid it was too big-so I was thinking how I could remake it. . . luckily it actually fit.
