Make Your Home a Haven Day 1 & 2

Well I just recently went onto Monica's blog and found out about her focusing on Making Her Home a Haven this week. When I read her posts I knew I wanted to join in on the fun. I always find that when I do these "challenges", yes I call them "challenges". Why? Because I think that sometimes we do need to challenge ourselves to let the daily grind leave us and focus more on the little things. Focus on our time with our Heavenly Father and our time with our children and husband. The time that we spend with them is so precious. I don't want to lose sight of them, which is why I think I need these "challenges". They challenge me to be more creative and thoughtful throughout my day. Today was a normal day of school, but without even knowing about this challenge I ended up creating a little more of a Haven in my home, which I will continue this week.

We started out our day with cartoons and cinnamon toast. I have challenged myself to a pantry challenge, in hopes that we will not have to pack so much food to bring to the new house. I think the less food storage that has to be transferred, the better. That being said we had a simple breakfast of canned peaches and toast. I will be getting more creative with recipes and hope to share a few as well :>

Anyways we thought Keagan had speech therapy today, but when we went tothe school we found out it was a staff development day and no speech would be happening. We decided since we were already out we would make a run to Fresh and Easy and DI (my favorite thrift store).

Once home our school day begun. We are focusing a bit on Dr. Suess this week, since March 2 is his birthday. We read a few books by Dr. Suess and made a few items from Green Eggs and Ham Cookbook. Here is what we made:

Bramble-berry Blueberry Scones
These were so delicious for our mid morning snack.
We also made a whooville desert for after lunch.
It is really simple, just whip topping, angel food cake, and berries.
So yummy!

For fun we did milk paint. I can't remember where I saw this recently, but I know it was on a blog. We took milk and food coloring and made some fun color effects with toothpicks.

In the afternoon we made a trip to a neighborhood park, which I was so thankful we went. I had such an amazing experience while we were there. Now when we got to the park bubba was a bit bummed, since he didn't see any boys his age to play with. He did however see a group of older boys playing flag football. Now Keagan has never really played football and in fact is a bit uncoordinated, but is getting better. He evens tends to be on the shy side, when around new kids. Well as I was pushing Miss Priss on the swings he came to tell me he was going to join the football game. At first, I am ashamed to say it, but I discouraged him from asking the older kids to play. I was worried they would be mean and not want him to play. The thought of him getting his feelings hurt broke my heart. He persevered though. He told me "No Mom I will go ask them. I want to play". And he did. He went right over there and they allowed him to join in.

This taught me something so huge today. I should never discourage my children from being forward in social situations. I am so proud of him that, although the children were bigger, he was not scarred, but excited at the possibility of playing this new fun game. He didn't catch the ball when tossed at him, but he ran with a huge smile on his face the whole time he played. The older children were so nice and gave him pats on the back for encouragement.

I am so sorry that I prejudged these young boys, who were playing. I am thankful that they were sweet and wonderful to my little boy. I am thankful that my little red head is becoming a confident young boy. That he isn't afraid to try new things or to step out of his comfort zone. What a lesson I was taught today and how humble I feel right now as I type this. Thank you Heavenly Father for allowing me to learn from my little ones. I think more often than not, they are the teachers and I am the one learning something new. Thank you for allowing me to have my testimony strengthened through them.

After our park fun was over we came home for dinner. bubba was still pretty jazzed about his football experience, so I was thankful I had checked this movie out from the library over the weekend.

A perfect football themed family film. He loved it and said watching it would help his game. Oh how I love that little boy!

We had Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies. Bubbas request.
I thought I would include the recipe as well.
