Bread Machine: White Bread Recipe

For those who don't know me I am an avid DI shopper (goodwill, salvation army, etc). I love finding a good deal and totally love it when I leave the store with something I know I have been searching for, but could never afford at regular store prices. Well a few months ago I found a bread maker for $7.00 Are you so surprised? I sure was. My hubby and I found it and brought that beautiful baby home. It is a Regal brand Breadmaker. I am not sure if that makes a difference. It is my new best friend and I love it! Once home, I immediately called my sisinlaw Holly and copied some of her favorite bread machine recipes. One of them was for white bread and oh man is it yummy! It makes a 1lb. loaf and if you have never had homemade bread before please go make some. I swear it will change your world. A bread machine makes it super simple. Just pour the ingredients into your machine, hit start, and go on with your day. In 3 hours you will have a house smelling of homebaked goodness and some yummy bread to eat with your loved ones. Here is the recipe for a Basic White Bread 1 lb Loaf. Enjoy and Happy Baking!

** Add wet ingredients first & then dry on top. The yeast goes on the very top**

3/4 cups of tap water + 1 tsp of water
1 tbl oil (I use canola, but vegetable will work also)
1 tbl molasses (optional)
1tsp salt
1 1/2 tbl white sugar
1 tbl dried milk powder (can also use real milk)
2 1/4 cups of flour
2 1/2 tbl of gluten powder (optional)
1 1/3 tsp yeast

put all ingredients in your bread maker in this order. Put it on the basic bread setting and press start. I try to check on mine after like 10 minutes and see how my dough is looking. If it looks a little wet I add a tbl of flour, if it looks a little dry I add a tbl of water. (this all depends on if you use molasses or gluten).

Hope you guys have a chance to try out this yummy bread recipe!

My hubby and I love our bread fresh and hot with some Nutella spread on it. So Yummy!

XO Danielle

  1. I would love to try this recipe, but I do have a few questions. Does the bread taste any different with the substitutions (for example vegetable oil as opposed to canola or the real milk versus the powder)? Also, if you use real milk, obviously you should put it in with wet ingredients, correct? Does omitting the molasses or gluten change the taste? I'm assuming molasses is used for sweetener?

Thanks! Can't wait to try this!

  2. Love your blog! I'm a stay-at-home mom and would love it to stay that way, but our budget is struggling. I've tried making homemade bread before but it never turned out quite right. It wasn't really good for sandwiches and turned stale so quickly. Maybe this recipe will be better. Any tips?

    1. adding gluten really helps your bread stick together. I also rub margarine or butter on top when it comes out of the oven. Helps keep it moist.

    1. I am actually not sure. I just know this is what works for my bread machine sorry. You could do it on dough cycle and then bake it in the oven. Then you wouldn't have a problem.

  13. If you decide to bake it in the oven...how long? I'm not always a fan of texture of bread machine breads but I use it a TON for just mixing the dough up and letting it do the hard work :)

  17. I love this recipe!!! I did change a few ingredients because we have a milk allergy. We did unsweetened almondmilk in place of the milk and coconut sugar in place of sugar. I didn't add molasses or gluten powder.
