Black History Month: Harriet Tubman

Last week we read Escape North! The Story of Harriet Tubman (Step-Into-Reading, Step 3). This book I broke up into chapters and read it over the course of a few days. I thought it would take us a week to get through it, but on day 3 they got really into the book and wanted to finish the rest. I was so excited that they got into the story. I have included a breakdown of what we did each day (I just combined day 3 & 4).

Day 1 --Chapter 1 & 2

We talked about what the underground railroad was and its purpose.
We did this coloring page of Harriet Tubman.

Day 2 -- Chapter 3 & 4

We talked about the North Star and practiced drawing stars, writing our capital and lower case S and wrote the word "Star".

Day 3 -- Chapter 5 & 6

We talked about the different "stations" on the underground rail road and I made them a letter that they could decode. They really enjoyed this one.

Day 4 --Chapter 7 & 8

We talked about Abraham Lincoln and what he did to end slavery. We also did this coloring page of Abraham Lincoln

In case you're wondering about Keagan's signature, he said he was doing "curtsy" writing. He so wants to learn cursive

Have a Blessed Day!
