Christmas ABC's: C is for Candle

On Wednesday our letter for the day was C for candle. We had a lot of fun with this one. We actually did more than I had originally planned. I had wanted to decorate candle holders, but I realized Wednesday morning I had forgotten to get holders for my littles to decorate. My slip of the mind turned into a blessing. We ended up doing something more meaningful. We started out by reading these books:

We then started a scavenger hunt for the greatest blessing God has given us. This is something we have been talking about this week. I want them to realize that celebrating Christmas is a gift and a wonderful time to remember Him. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

I took a picture of Mary holding Jesus, it was on we had around our house, and I gift wrapped. I hid it under our tree and then made up a few quick picture clues. (do not judge my artwork. I am not a artist in this aspect).

This sent my littles out on a hunt around the house. Even Daddy got in on the fun.

The clue was taped under the table. It took them a few minutes to realize they had to pull the chairs out, to see where the clue was hidden underneath.

Once they had found the last clue, and had unwrapped the present, we had a little mini lesson. We talked about that wonderful gift and how important it is. We then talked about why Christ is called the "Light of the World". I referred back to a previous FHE where we turned out all the lights in the apartment and tried to walk around, without bumping into anything. This was a very hard task for my littles, and even a little scary at times. I then gave them flashlights to see if that was easier. It made it easier, but still a little difficult and a little scary not seeing beyond our own little light. We then turned on all the lights and of course then it was simple. We compared this to Christ and how when he have his full light with us, our path is lit up right before us.

We ended with painting a picture of a candle. (I just googled a candle coloring page)

It turned out to be a great teaching moment with my littles and I am thankful for the inspiration that God has given me to help them, and myself remember this wonderful time of year and its true meaning. I pray we will continue to be able to focus on this the rest of the month. I pray you will have a wonderful day learning and exploring with your littles.

Today we are doing D for decorating cookies and will be sending home made cards to my cousin who is far from home this year. I will post details tomorrow.

Her eis a link to my list of our Christmas ABC's.

Have a Blessed Day!
