Haven: Day Two

Today was a wonderful day. I was inspired last night while listening to General Conference via the web. I had an epiphany on how I could better teach my children. I knew I needed more of a morning school routine. I wanted us to incorporate the scriptures more. After much pondering and prayer, I was able to create. I think I made our school day today much easier and more fun. It didn't cost me anything and I kept it very simple. The kids loved it. This is what I created last night:

I have been wanting to use my learning board, but didn't know where to put it. Now it fits perfectly on our school wall. We have our words of the week and our countdown of school days. They can't wait for the 100th day. I really want to do something big and fun.

New sticker charts to encourage learning and growing
The bee hive and bee's have scriptures on them. Today one of our scriptures was in Doctrine and Covenants 138:11

"As I pondered over these things which are written, the eyes of my understanding were opened, and the Spirit of the Lord rested upon me"

This reassured to me my feelings from the night before. When we think about what we want to bring us closer to God and pray for Him to help us, he will. He will open our eyes.

To build upon our hectic free morning we had Apple Nachos. They were so yummy!

We snacked on these while we finished our lessons.
Once lessons were done, we picked up Nana and headed to the Children's Museum.

the wind tunnel and us afterwards

This is just the cutest thing ever. I love how they are imagining together. It just warms my heart:>

To end our day we made Gummy Worm Popsicles and enjoyed a family night of watching It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. It turned out to be such a wonderful day. Very little house work got done, but the memories made with my children mean so much more than a clean sink. I will leave those dishes for tomorrow. For now I will just enjoy the beauty of this day and the time spent with my loved ones.

Before I venture off to bed, I will leave you with this simple how-to recipe.

Gummy Worm Popsicles

1 tub of gummy worms
orange juice
toothpicks

I placed a gummy worm into each ice cube slot on the try. Then we filled it with orange juice. We ended up putting the toothpicks in a second gummy worm and then placing them into the mold. They turned out very well. They are super easy and of course a wonderful spooky treat for the littles.

On the agenda tomorrow:
Make blueberry muffins for breakfast, school, maybe a little park time, and then hopefully catching up on laundry. It seems to never ends, but I will try to find joy in the simple pleasures of my day. Have a wonderful day tomorrow:>

  2. Hi Danielle,
Some how I missed your day 2 post!!!
I love your learning board ideas...I may have to "borrow" and idea or two.

You made the Apple Nachos too!!!! so very yummy!

The Children's Museum looks so fun. You and your mom look just as beautiful after your Wind Tunnel experience.

    Thanks for sharing your day!

    Blessings,
    Clorissa

  3. Seems everyone's been making those apple nachos. Guess I should too for my little ones!

Enjoyed this post and seeing pics of your trip to the Children's Museum. We have visited a similar museum in St. Louis. They had a "pond" for fishing with magnets tied to the ends of metal fish in the water as well as the auto parts section where the kids could see under the belly of the car and under the hood. A large, local grocer is also one of the sponsors and provide all sorts of empty containers in the grocery store where the children could "shop" (open refrigerated section doors, dry goods aisle, etc.) FUN stuff!

As you said...the dishes can always wait...it's the memories that are most important!
